Improved bycatch reduction in the mixed demersal trawl fishery for Norway pout (Trisopterus esmarkii)

چکیده
In this study, we compared the bycatch reduction capacity of a trawl fitted with standard rigid sorting grid that newly developed, flexible system called Excluder. We conducted fishing trials in Norway pout (Trisopterus esmarkii) small-meshed fishery North Sea. Catch data were analysed by species and length using catch comparison ratio method. The Excluder significantly reduced (in weight) relative to for blue whiting (Micromesistius poutassou) (−35.6%), mackerel (Scomber scombrus) (−93.3%), horse (Trachurus trachurus) (−99.3%), herring (Clupea harengus) (−89.9%), haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus), (−98.6%), (Merlangius merlangus) cod (Gadus morhua) (−97.1%), European hake (Merluccius merluccius) (−98.0%), greater argentine (Argentina sphyraena) (−24.5%). For there was marginal decrease overall efficiency −1.4%. observed is explained larger area grid's differences behaviour between species. While it contributes reduce quota regulated species, also can potentially affect profitability fishery.

Trawl Selectivity in the Barents Sea Demersal Fishery
This chapter provides a general overview of the Barents Sea demersal trawl fishery. First, it reviews historical catch levels and current biomass status of four commercially important demersal species (cod, haddock, Greenland halibut, and redfish) and includes an overview of their management plan that has been carried out by the Joint Norwegian–Russian commission. Then, it presents the evolutio...
متن کاملElasmobranch bycatch in the Italian Adriatic pelagic trawl fishery
Elasmobranchs are among the most threatened long-lived marine species worldwide, and incidental capture is a major source of mortality. The northern central Adriatic Sea, though one of the most overfished basins of the Mediterranean Sea, supports a very valuable marine biodiversity, including elasmobranchs. This study assesses the impact of the northern central Adriatic pelagic trawl fishery on...
متن کاملTechnical efficiency in the Swedish trawl fishery for Norway lobster
Reducing fleet capacity in European fisheries is an important objective of the European Union’s Common Fisheries Policy. The success of such programmes depends both on the variation and the level of efficiency within the fishing fleets. If vessels with significantly lower than average efficiency levels are decommissioned, the actual reduction in fishing capacity will be less than expected. Furt...
